When I was elected to an interim board seat at REBA 6 months ago, I referenced how REBA’s priorities and passion for the mission of accelerating a zero-carbon energy future aligned so well with mine, which remains more relevant than ever. But I also referenced focusing on helping address the lack of diversity and inclusion in the renewable energy industry and helping REBA utilize its leverage to hold the renewable industry accountable and move them toward action, as opposed to just talk. I think we’re off to a good start in that regard, but we can be doing so much more. We’ve started a more measurable action-oriented journey at my own company-- under my leadership and working with outside consultants, we’re moving toward an action plan, concentrating on both internal and external demonstrable activities that ensure DEI isn’t just something we reference occasionally, but instead happens in impactful, difference-making ways. I want to specifically continue to work with REBA on recruitment and workforce readiness programs in underserved communities and to develop guidelines that would hold developers accountable for their own commitments and results-oriented action plans to ensure far greater workforce diversity and inclusion.
